Please note: Applications for our next round of funding are open and will close on 1st September 2026 for review in October 2026.

The Finchley Charities Programme

We are funding projects that support people experiencing the negative impact of poverty and deprivation. Our focus is on grassroots organisations that are working in our local communities – enabling local and contextual responses to the needs these places face.

Families are a focal point through which many of the negative effects of poverty are experienced.

Families are also often multi-generational, supporting elderly grandparents with additional needs. Likewise, individuals with disabilities are regularly supported by their families. Children’s development, especially during early-years, can also have a huge impact on their development and future exposure to long-term poverty.

For these reasons our funding is primarily focussed on the relationship between families and poverty. This however is broadly interpreted, meaning we can consider applications for work linked to the priority groups outlined below.

Our work is focused in Finchley. We look to support projects with a track record of success, or where the specific model of work is proven to be successful.

Awards up to £2,000 per-year are available, with awards for three years open to consideration.

Our eligibility criteria for the programme is as follows. We are funding these priority groups:

  • Older People
  • Families
  • People with Disabilities
  • Early Years
  • Domestic Violence

Considering organisations / projects that are:

  • In Finchley and/or the London Borough of Barnet
  • A registered not-for-profit organisation, with at least one set of audited or independently examined annual accounts
  • Where successful project outcomes can be evidenced

Funding is available for specific projects – and related general organisational costs. This can include pro-rata staffing and operational costs. Additionally, we will not award a grant that represents more than 20% of the current annual running costs of the organisation.

We Don’t Fund

In addition to what we will fund, there are a range of things that this programme does not consider:

  • Projects that have no community or charitable element
  • Retrospective funding, deficits or loans
  • Organisations which are not a registered not-for-profit organisation
  • Organisations with an annual turnover above £500,000
  • Organisations with reserves of more than 12 months’ expenditure
  • Organisations that do not provide direct services to clients
  • Organisations which applied to us unsuccessfully within the previous 18 months
  • Capital Costs
  • Services which are a statutory responsibility
  • Projects that are purely for the advancement of religion or politics (this does not exclude faith-based charities, however we may ask for a copy of your non-proselytizing policy)
  • Overseas work
