This week, we’re recognising several important cultural and faith moments within our community — a powerful reflection of the diversity we are proud to support at The Finchley Charities.
🥞 Pancake Tuesday (Shrove Tuesday) marks the beginning of Lent in the Christian calendar. Traditionally, pancakes were prepared to use up ingredients such as eggs and butter before a season of reflection, prayer and, for some, fasting in the lead-up to Easter. It remains both a joyful and meaningful tradition in many households.
🌙 Ramadan has now begun — a sacred month for Muslims centred on fasting from dawn to sunset, prayer, self-discipline and charitable giving. It is a time of spiritual growth, compassion and community, with families and neighbours gathering at sunset to break the fast and share meals together.
🧧 Chinese New Year (Tuesday, 17 February 2026) marks the beginning of the lunar new year. Celebrations often include family reunions, traditional foods, vibrant decorations symbolising good fortune, and hopes for prosperity, health and happiness in the year ahead.
